Amazon.com Review:
J. Gordon Melton has the credentials: he's a religious historian, author of 25 books about religion and vampires, president of the American chapter of the Transylvania Society of Dracula (founded in Bucharest, Romania), and chairman of the committee that put on Dracula '97: A Centennial Celebration in Los Angeles. The Vampire Book is meticulously researched and well organized. Included are an article on the cultural history of the vampire; a historical timeline; addresses of vampire societies all over the world; a 55-page filmography; vampires in plays, opera, and ballet; a 13-page list of vampire novels; and an extensive index. The A to Z entries, each with a short bibliography, include vampire lore in more than 30 different geographic regions and a comprehensive "who's who," and cover topics ranging from fingernails to sexuality, the Camarilla to Szekelys.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book, great price
I got this at a Walden's near my house for $6.50, roughly. It's nearly 1000 pages long and has revealed things to me about vampires that I have never before known. I am very interested in pop. culture, and it explains, in great detail, the entire "vampire mythos", and history of it in our society and culture today. It also explains the history of vampires. In fact, it explains EVERYTHING about vampires! It also gives some good shows and movies about them to watch. The only problem is that I am a Junior in high school, and what with the entire Twilight frenzy sweeping the nation, all of my peers view me as somewhat of an immature freak from reading this in public; but I just counter it by telling them exactly what it's about.

But I desist; this is a very nice read, especially if you are interested in vampire non-fiction and are looking for a good reference point to jump from.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Too fun!
This is a great addition to my vampire collection. Great job with the shipping speed and the book was in the condition described. Thank you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Must have book!
I got this book as a birthday gift and I LOVE it. It is the largest and most complete compilation of vampire information I have found to date. 919 pages total, including a full index and 66 pages of references show just how much research went into the book. A true gem. I only wish they would come out with a newer edition so that I could update my library!
