A world-class course in baking for new and practiced bakers alike. Baking with Julia is not only a book full of glorious recipes but also one that continues Julia's teaching tradition. Basic techniques come alive and are easily comprehensible in recipes that demonstrate the myriad ways of raising dough, glazing cakes, and decorating crusts. This is the resource you'll turn to again and again for all your baking needs. Baking with Julia presents an extraordinary assemblage of talent, knowledge, and artistry from the new generation of bakers whose vision is so much a part of this book. The list of contributors reads like a Who's Who of today's master bakers: Flo Braker, Steve Sullivan, Marcel Desaulniers, Nick Malgieri, Alice Medrich, Nancy Silverton, Martha Stewart, and a host of bright new talents such as Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid. With nearly 200 recipes, and half as many pages of full-color photographs, this incomparable kitchen companion goes far beyond what most cookbooks offer. More than 50 pages of illustrated reference sections define terms and techniques, and explain the hows and whys of batters and doughs. If you've never made flaky pie crust, your first no-fail experience is at hand. From chocolate to cheesecake, from miniature gems to multitiered masterpieces-this cookbook is a total immersion experience in the wonder of home baking. Amazon.com Review: Television cooking shows are occasionally moderately entertaining to watch, but as sources for usable recipes and good cooking ideas, they are hit or miss at best. Cookbooks based on cooking shows are even less likely to be useful in the kitchen. One shining exception is Julia Child's "Master Chef" series. One of the best cooking shows ever produced, it also yielded some wonderful cookbooks, including Cooking With Master Chefs. The latest is Baking With Julia, which features the creations of 26 top bakers. All are artists with flour, eggs, butter, and the other ingredients of their craft. Writer Dorie Greenspan is a master at her craft as well. The paste for eclairs, she writes, is transformed from "ordinary-looking batter" into "a puffed pastry that appears to be threatening flight." It's all definitely good enough to eat. Related Items:

![]() Rating: - Baking with JuliaBaking with Julia is a great reference book with lots of pictures and recipes. It is very informative and makes you want to start baking right away! I received this book in only a few days. It was in great condition and the price was less than half of what I found it at the book store! I would purchase other books from this vendor. Rating: - Watch the directions!I made the sticky buns. I don't think Julia wrote the directions or even reviewed them. You can really burn yourself badly on this recipe---literally and figuratively. There needs to be dark karo poured in to help the sticky buns get sticky--not just brown sugar and butter. But the really dangerous thing is the directions tell you to turn them out right away after cooking or they will stick in the pan. If you do that, out will pour the hot butter and brown sugar mix and it is likely to go all over your hands and scald you if you don't have on protective gloves. It is a real danger! Let the pan sit for about 5 min, then with the protective gloves on, turn it out on a plate. It is less likely to GUSH out and more likely to stick to the buns. Also beware: read the recipes and if it tells you to hold half of something back, write it in the appropriate place in the recipe. The editing lacks a lot in this book. I'm willing to try another recipe or two, but if no better than the sticky buns, I'm tossing the book. Rating: - inspirational cook bookI've gone through this book many times and think about what it would be like to actually have time to bake bread. I've finally started and now think about which recipe to do next. I'd like to have a bit more detail on what the dough should look like when it comes to certain stages in the mixer. I'm now looking for the videos to see if those will have the answer. Rating: - A must haveThis book is excellent for any aspiring baker. I have tried many recipes and they work beautifully. I am an amateur cook, and I love Julia Child, this is one of her books that I use the most when I want to treat people I love. It does take time and effort, but the results are amazing.
