 Rating: - Elegant Bamboo Rolling Pin Proves Excellent, Sturdy Baker's ToolI completely agree with Jennifer, another Reviewer for this product. The heavier weight of this rolling pin proves a better baker's tool than the usual French pastry rolling pin made of maple. The naturally tighter and more dense grain of bamboo wood makes the surface of this rolling pin, which is sanded silky smooth and, as Jennifer says, is not prone to splintering, almost impermeable, nonporous. Whether one's pastry recipe calls for butter, shortening, or oil, rolling it out simultaneously lubricates the pin to an elegant sheen, protecting the bamboo and preventing sticking of the dough as it is worked. Rolling pastry is easier with this pin's length which better suits the average shoulder-width position of the hands upon the pin as one rolls. With a larger circumference, this pin also makes short work of rolling with a few passes and use of the slightly tapered ends. In all, this is an excellent, sturdy, durable, and essential kitchen tool. With bamboo's growing popularity as an easily renewable and sustainable resource, I recommend it over pins that spin on an axle and certainly over the French tapered pins made of maple. Enjoy! Rating: - Quality and StyleI lost my Vic Firth french rolling pin in a move, and bought this one to replace it. While it is slightly thicker and not quite as tapered as the Vic, I found it worked just fine for rolling pie dough out in a regular, even circle. The weight of it was helpful, actually, and the more uniform barrel might make it more versatile for other pastries. Initially I was concerned that it might stick or catch, but the bamboo is as seamless and smooth as the maple was. I have bamboo cutting boards which I use daily, and I have had no issues with splitting. I oil all my bamboo pieces (knife block, fruit bowl, etc) about once a month, and they have a lovely sheen. It makes for a pretty and unique kitchen, and I feel better about harvesting bamboo than I do cutting down maple trees. All in all, I would recommend this rolling pin.
