![]() Rating: - Nice Electric Tea kettleSo far I'm very happy with the Cuisinart KUA-17. I've only had it for about one month. But so far so good. I write it like this as this is my fourth tea kettle I've purchased. The first one lasted just about a year. The second about 18 months (Braun). The third one was/is a Capresso which I got in December & it died in less than six months - - I'm not happy as it's the highest rated one. Now, the Cuisinart KUA-17 is very quiet, but it's no where as fast as the Capresso. The Capresso is however super noisy. So - at this point no complaints. I hope it remains so for at least one year. Rating: - Use only stainless steel or glassAs we become more and more aware of potential toxins that can leach out of plastics it makes sense for Americans to use only glass or stainless steel for cooking, because they are inert (won't react with the contents or break down into the contents). Although I like glass the best because you can look right at the liquid, stainless steel is a lot more forgiving it your pot gets rough handling. I liked the aesthetics of the Cuisinart kettle best, so I bought one about 3 years ago and it's still going strong. My son wanted one for his dorm room in college, so I sent him one and it's survived two years at college. It's a lot better than the old single-cup immersion heaters that we used to use when I was in college (a year or two ago). The handle is comfortable and well-balanced when the kettle is full of water, and it's easy to pour. Yes, it is expensive, but so are almost all of the electric stainless steel tea kettles and we give ours a lot of use. My advice: go for the brand with the size and shape of stainless steel kettle that you like the best, but DEFINITELY stay away from any of the plastic ones! Rating: - Stylish & Relatively ReliableThis is one of the sharper-looking electric kettles around. We're on our third. The first one died about a month before the 3-year warranty expired and, to Cuisinart's credit, they replaced the whole thing without an argument. The replacement died about 2 years later, but the warranty doesn't start anew with the replacement model, so we were out of luck. They basically told us to buy a new one. That annoyed us, but after a lot of online research, it was clear that nearly all other models offer only a 1-year warranty, so we plopped down another $70 or so and have a shiny new kettle again. I may be old school, but I still think electrical appliances should last more than 3 years, but that's rarely the case anymore. So we went with the best available coverage, for a unit that's sleek and otherwise works well. Rating: - Great while it lastsI'm just going on to order another one after our first wore out after a few years. As another reviewer said, they should last longer. So, not best value for the money, but after checking out many different options, still our favorite.
