Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Singin' with the Big Bands
Until I attended his concert in LV, I didn't know this album existed -- fool is me! This is really an unique album for him but it's now my favorite. I wonder how many times you can play a CD before you wear it out!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Barry sings this tribute---and there's gold dust at his feet !!!
Singin' with the Big Bands is a strong Barry Manilow CD that pays tribute to the era of the big bands. These bands started in the 20s and 30s but their true heyday was in the first half of the 1940s; and there's no wonder as to why they stayed popular for so long. Their music was wonderful; and even today people still buy Glenn Miller CDs. Barry sings well on this CD; and the quality of the sound is excellent. The artwork is very tastefully done as well.

The title track starts the album with Barry singing a tribute to "the big boys;" and fittingly this number itself has an excellent big band style arrangement. The brass is used to great advantage and Barry never sounded better! "Sentimental Journey" sounds great and it's truly a major highlight of this album. Listen also for "And The Angels Sing;" Barry gets to open up and showcase the operatic qualities of his voice. This song, which I usually associate with Martha Tilton, gets a fine treatment by Barry Manilow which would have made Martha very proud!

"Don't Get Around Much Anymore" has Barry singing with the sublime Duke Ellington Orchestra; they play so wonderfully while Barry sings this really well. I really like "Don't Get Around Much Anymore;" and you will too if you haven't heard this before. Barry takes this classic song and puts his own stamp on it with a few tempo changes along the way--and it all works very well. "Chattanooga Choo Choo" has Barry singing with The Glenn Miller Orchestra; Barry's rendition of this song is outstanding. The female backup singers harmonize well and they bolster Barry's performance very nicely.

"On The Sunny Side Of The Street," a song which has always been a favorite of mine from this era, gets a regal musical arrangement from The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra--what a fine number! I love every minute of this tune. "All Or Nothing At All" again puts Barry squarely in the spotlight and the music that accompanies him fits in perfectly with his vocals. "All Or Nothing At All" is another highlight of this CD.

"I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You" shines brightly when Barry Manilow performs this with great panache; and the brass and strings are used very well in the arrangement, too. This slow tempo tune is perfect for romantic slow dancing with your sweetheart late at night in your living room; it's all THAT good. In addition, the CD ends well with Barry performing "Where Does The Time Go?" This final ballad leaves you wanting more--don't be surprised if you want to listen to this entire album the moment it ends! It's fantastic.

Barry Manilow fans will want this CD; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals and the big band style of music will cherish this album for many years to come.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Barry Manilow's "Singin' With the Big Bands"
This is fine listening. I'm a bit young to remember the big bands, but, back then, lyrics really meant something. The big band sound with Barry Manilow's great voice singing those old, real, lovesongs. Too good to pass up. I bought 4 for Christmas stocking stuffers. Everyone loved theirs.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Barry Swings with the Big Bands
As a long time Manilow fan I applaud his renditions of big band favorites. His vocal and musical arrangements are classic "Manilow" and this CD opened the door for those of us who were unfamiliar with this musical era. The sound quality is fantastic!
