![]() Rating: - Baking FanWow!Wow! It's excellent, with conversions, recommendations, nice pictures, etc., everyone should have one copy of it. Rating: - Great CookiesI ordered this book because my sister and I along with a few daughters hold a marathon cookie baking weekend in December. We then give away cookie trays to family and friends. All of the reciepes we used from this book were great tasting, and recieved high reviews from our test tasters (husband and friends). Good book for any cookie making adventurer. Rating: - Not ordinary cookiesI haven't yet attempted any of the recipes in this book yet, but I have looked through it. There seems to be a lot of unique and little known cookies. Some of the recipes seem quite complex. I would not recommend this for someone that just wants a good compilation of easy Christmas cookies. There are quite a lot of ethnic recipes that might be good for surprising grandma or grandpa with something they haven't had in quite a while. Rating: - a mixed bagFirst, the good! This book has beautiful pictures, is a lot of fun to read and drool over, and will definitely get you in a Christmassy-baking-cookies-mood! The jumbles, wreaths, toffee, and peanut butter kisses are especially delicious and will forever be in my Christmas-treat repertoire. However, I must agree with previous reviewers who have said that some of the recipes, frankly, seem to have been done with little testing. The gingerbread refuses to come together on its own (even when the recipe is followed meticulously), and many of the recipes seem, to me, to be unnecessarily complicated. Why does one ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO use fresh coconut in the macaroons? It's a needlessly complicated step and the cookies are just as delicious (and five times faster!) with pre-packaged. Call me trailer trash, but I just don't think one should have to be a chemist to make cookies. Also, the binding on my edition is AWFUL. The book started to fall apart after the first year. It is in many, many pieces at this point. Very disappointing, when you have to spend $20 on it!
